"What?" Conflict warred in her expression.
"Tell me you don't want this."
Her lips parted, but the only sound that came out was her labored breathing.
"Tell me you don't want me."
She swallowed hard, body shuddering.
"I . . ." Nathalie's chest heaved roughly. Her gaze dropped and my fingers stilled.
"You want me to stop? To walk away?" I released her and stepped to the side faster than she could blink. I flipped her chair around to face me with the toe of my shoe. Placing my hands on the armrests, I leaned forward to bring us face-to-face. "Tell me with a straight face that you don't want me, and I will walk right out that door. I'll put the distance between us you keep claiming we need. I'll let the bond unravel . . ." It killed me to say this. To offer this. For her, I would. But a piece of me would die in this restaurant. "If you truly do not want this, say the words. That's all you have to do."
A choked, anguished sound slipped past her lips.
"It doesn't matter what I want—" she started.
"Tell me." The hard edge to my voice could have cut. I didn't want to force her hand, but over the course of dinner, one thing had become increasingly clear to me above all else.
Nathalie wouldn't choose her own happiness until I made her understand that choosing herself—choosing us—wasn't the same as dooming her friend. She couldn't make me be with a woman I never wanted. All my sunling could do was either deny us both or strike the match.
"I . . ." she started again, opening and closing her mouth. "I can't."

There are just no words on how amazing this story is. It is completely packed with information. This one starts off so much better than the last where I do not feel like I am missing a book or series. It pulled me in and didn’t let go. It had me on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I absolutely loved it. Nat is such a strong and mature FMC for her age. I love how she doesn’t let things hold her back. To be honest I absolutely love Lucifer and his personality with Nat. August is just as amazing. Marcel, I haven’t really connected with him as I am sure it is all the lying he does. The story is extremely well written and developed. It definitely ends in a major cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

While seemingly progressed at a snail’s pace, this is an enjoyable story. It’s a double slow burn: romance and plot. It’s actually good to read a well developed paranormal romance for a change. The story of the male characters is very different and that’s a nice change, too.

The backstory and world add to the plot. The twist is not surprising. But I still like how this story is shown rather than told. The story of the female main character is interesting and multi layered. There’s just more to this story than most of this genre.

Altogether, four stars for an above average paranormal romance.

I've been obsessed with Nat's story since she was first introduced in Piper's series. Seeing her men take care of her because she never puts herself first gives me such warm feelings. Fantastic book as always from these two, I’m always amazed at how seamless it is when they write together. The story is taking on a life of its own and I can’t wait to read the last book.

But, be warned, it ends on a stinker of a cliffhanger. Not good for impatient people like me but it will be worth the wait when Book 3 arrives!

I’m off to start Demons of New Chicago now as I got my series muddled up and once I started this one I couldn’t put it down.
