A truly perfect book to assist and help you on your understanding and journey through Reiki.

I bought this book used, it was in excellent condition by the way.
It is a great complimentary book to the Reiki handbook I already own. I found this book so informative. I wondered why someone would have sold it, but thought if someone isn't attuned and doesn't own a Reiki handbook this book might not make much sense to them.
The book will be on my reference shelf and will be referred to again and again.

I just took my Reiki II training a week ago and this was one of he books my Reiki master suggested I read for further knowledge. This is exactly what she provided in this book, further knowledge on how the cause of illness and/disease starts in the mental/emotional body first.

Great book to help you understand reiki.

I have many interests and passions in my life one of them being Reiki. Besides taking level 1,2, and 3 level courses I have read numerous books on the subject. I recently purchased this 157 page soft cover book (Empowerment through Reiki: The path to personal and global transformation by Paula Horan) and found this volume interesting even though it covered the same material I read in other books on Reiki.
Unfortunately, this book also promotes some of the same myths about the founder of Reiki Dr. Mikao Usui. One example is the myth about Dr. Mikao Usui visiting or teaching at the University of Chicago. Hopefully, someday a Reiki researcher will actually uncover the true facts concerning the history of this wonderful universal healing art.
Being a Reiki master I was familiar with most of the material in this book which covers the following topics: A description of Reiki, the history of Reiki, how Reiki is different from other healing modalities, effects of Reiki treatment, the five Reiki principles, all about attunements, the first degree class, the 21 day cleanse process, the second degree class, extra tools to use with Reiki, mixing Reiki with other healing methods, group treatments, treating different things with Reiki, the importance of energy exchange, treating specific disorders, body psychology, and Reiki’s place in the evolution of consciousness.
This is a fairly good introduction to the practice of Reiki for those with little or no experience with this healing art. It also has quite a few illustrations.
Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Chair/Seated Tai Chi, Qigong, and Yoga for seniors and the physically challenged.)

Very good book. Just finished my Reiki 1 training and enjoyed reading the book.

I found it kind of hard to read. There is a definite Western bias I found hard to get around, even as a Reiki Master/Teacher in the Western (Usui Shiki Ryoho) tradition. Ms. Horan repeats many of the myths that Mrs. Takata propagated in her efforts to make this Japanese spiritual practice palatable to Americans shortly after World War II. I don't blame Mrs. Takata because where would I be if she hadn't, but the world is a bigger (and simultaneously smaller) place now and there is none of the same suspicion from the second quarter of the 20th century. These myths aren't needed anymore. There is plenty more research and history out there for the hungry and curious student of any level.
