Some say it all began with
Harry Potter, then Twilight, then The Hunger Games, then Divergent, then The Fault in Our Stars, the The Maze Runner… ah, phew, wow the list goes on. Sorry if I missed any. As I was saying, YA novels are popular, and, as a writer, it seems like the route to go down is this genre. Seriously, who know that under a decade this is what is accomplished:

  • Over three billion dollars in revenue from Twilight, Hunger Games and Harry Potter combined.

  • More and more people are being inspired to write a novel, especially in this genre

  • Authors are earning greater respect, and the profession is now (often) looked at as an accomplishment before it might have been seen as a hobby or “not a real job”

With that said, it’s imperative to know the ins and outs of the genre, to understand and recognize what to do and what not to do

A fairly brash, bright and chipper (old talk for upbeat) tone that for my reading first time on topic of Youth, or Young adults fiction was at least flavoured stylistically in the right way. Yet more from my money was needed. More depth and length and examples. At 4000 or so words this amounts to around 15 pages. However three of these last were blurbs for the joint authors other books. Not a bad strategy for sales to link them. But better yet in a work longer itself than twelve short pages! Anything upwards of 25 topic related pages would have earned four stars. The information wasOK, the tone possibly a fair example of the gushy style YA readers like? Fifty pages worth would have been an over the top over delivery that could have been spectacular. Still selling for 99c but thrilling readers with its fulsomeness.A potential name-making and high star earning opportunity lost then shall we say?
