4.1 4.1 out of 5 stars 807 ratings

My magic isn’t the only thing hiding in this small town…

Homeschooled all my life to care for my mother, I reluctantly accept an offer to attend the local university.

Little did I know, it's a facade concealing a supernatural academy.

Suddenly thrust into a world of magic, I discover I'm not human, and neither are the four enigmatic men vying for my attention: the brooding vampire, the mysterious witch, the gentle giant werewolf, and the sweet one whose nature eludes me.

As I grapple with newfound powers and a lifelong truth I had never been willing to accept, I uncover dark forces that have kept them hidden. But with revelation comes consequence, and I soon realize the curses I've unleashed may jeopardize not only my fate but the entire magical realm.

With malevolent forces closing in, I'm forced to confront my deepest fears and make a choice that will shape the destiny of us all.

Luna Pierce is the author of gritty romance, both dark contemporary and paranormal. She adores writing broken characters you won’t help but fall for on their journey to find themselves and fight for what they love. Her stories are for the hopelessly romantic who enjoy grit, angst, and passion.

When she’s not writing, you’ll find her consuming way too much coffee, making endless to-do lists, and spending time with her daughter and cats in small-town Ohio.

A coming of age witch story with a PG reverse harem twist
I want to call this a coming of age witch story with a PG reverse harem twist. Completely unique in its magic and plot.Willow is just a normal girl. Well... a normal girl with a mom who went crazy and started telling folks she was a cursed witch. Willow had her mom medicated for years to keep the crazy talk at bay. Then Willow goes off to college at Harper Academy where the real story begins. Before her classes even start, she finds herself the center of attention by 4 gorgeous guys. She's attracted to all of them in a unique way.She starts seeing strange shadows and her energy levels are acting pretty bipolar. One of the guys let's it slip that she might be a supernatural. A witch. So her mom wasn't crazy after all? But what about the curse? With the help of the guys, Willow manages to learn more about her powers and her curse. She has a long way to go, but with the help of her friends, she knows she'll get through it all ok.

It was slow in the beginning but totally worth it. The characters are unique and the story interesting. There are definitely more questions that answers in the beginning but as the mystery unfolds with the FMC it becomes riveting. The story pulls at your heart. A great first book. Can’t wait to see where it goes.

Willow has been told all her life, by her mom, that she is a witch. She's also been told that her mom is crazy. Willow believed everyone else and ignored her mother's ramblings. That is, until she goes off to college to enjoy a normal teen experience, and instead, is met with an array of strange things happening to her.
On the flip side, Willow makes many new friends during this endeavor. Willow meets four attractive young men, each drawing her to them in different ways. She makes fast friends with her dorm mates, the four girls becoming very close rather quickly. All of Willow's relationships ships happen near instantaneously, which does sometimes happen, but I like the slow burn and tough relationships. Despite this, all her relationships feel wholesome and organic and they grow in a natural and innocent way that I found to be cute and heartwarming.
The combination of Willow's curse, her many relationships and all the new info she receives becomes too much. Personally, I don't feel Willow handled it well, but with a push from a new friend, she figures things out, somewhat.
I love how Willow grows and learns throughout this ordeal. Despite it being a fast-paced book, she still learns to love her new friends and be more honest. She faces her problems head on and no longer hides herself away.
The quick pace of the story sometimes made it hard for me to stay engaged and I predicted a few of the twists and turns. This books is still a sweet coming of age story with the beginnings of an interesting romance and thrilling paranormal events. I'm still very eager to read the rest of the series and see where Willow's journey takes her.

I feel like this is a unique take on a classic PNR trope. The guys are sweet, the curse is wicked complicated, and the animosity between some of the guys is sure to make for an interesting dynamic. I’m looking forward to book 2!

I don’t think there’s a book by Luna Pierce/Kate that I haven’t loved.

It’s so well written. I fell in love with the characters right from the beginning. On to the next book 🩵

I really enjoyed this book. Willow is unaware of her history but when she starts college, she starts finding things out. It’s hard to write this review without spoilers so I’m just going to say that this is a great read

Spoilers

Ifeel sorry for the FMC's mother because she tried to tell her daughter about being a cursed wish and she just kind of blew her off even though there were tells that she was telling the truth. FMC doesn't realize her mistake until about 50% into the book where she mentioned that she feels bad that she didn't believe her mom.

The FMC kind of brushes over a lot of things especially in the beginning of the book.

One thing I do find interesting about this book is it sets the school in more of a "lower income" instead of "elite" bracket. I will say though some of the word choices in the book are a bit odd and misplaced. The plot of the book it isn't bad but I do not think I'm going to continue the series because there are multiple books to go and this book was very long winded, repetitive And felt like it just had a lot of filler space. I found myself at a certain point just getting bored putting that book down. At about 65% i starting skimming the book. We're basically answered her trying to go find her dad.

Stars given on level of engagement;

5 stars - less than a day to read because I cannot put it down. I only give 5 stars if it has managed to engage extra emotions from me - extreme lol moments or real teary moments etc. A 5 stars book tends to have me raging about cliff hangers and (legally and not creepily) stalking the author for release dates.

4 stars - 2 days to read or less. A book that I have quite enjoyed reading, feisty MC and some racy scenes with thier romantic interest. I would definitely follow a series and author for 4 star books.

3 stars - takes around 2/3 days to read, usually because I have become distracted and less engaged in some sections but by the end the end I have enjoyed the overall story and would read any sequels.

1/2 stars not given, as I have usually returned it without finishing as I'm not engaged. .

A great addition to the genre. Happy that the next book in the series is already available, not sure I would have been happy to wait to see what happens next.
