Jack Stroke's Lucky book is one of my favorites. It is a comedy/crime crossover, involving idiot criminals trying to pull a job on (and for) mobsters. It will keep you laughing, even as the situations get serious, and will keep you guessing about what is going to happen next. Stroke really knows how to land his chapter endings on cliffhangers. And how to put his characters in impossible situations. What do you do if you're told to steal some gangster's pangolin eggs, but you find out pangolins don't lay eggs? It's nonstop hilarity based on stupid characters in bad situations. And of course, none of the characters are trustworthy, even a random Uber driver. Highly recommend!

Here is the true meaning of a near-do-well.
Always high, always broke ,always lying to get out of trouble, always getting into more trouble, always borrowing money and never pays back and never a dull moment. They cal! Him lucky because nobody has yet killed him ( but they keep trying). I must admit this is a clever story about an anti-hero with many laughs along the way. BUT...A WORD OF CAUTION ( sorry didn't mean to shout), but our writer Jack Stroke ,at the very beginning of this crazy tale, warns us of the usage ( and over usage) of the "F" word and all its f- ing friends . This back alley, mobster, low life ,scum sucking verbalization of a coital encounter pops up on a regular basis. It IS used correctly given the situations, but its there....a lot. So you've been warned. Otherwise get ready to meet Lucky...unexpectedly funny !
I once had a,dog with 3 legs, one eye and no teeth....we called him Lucky.

I'm a big fan of Caimh McDonnell and was jonesing for some new material when I happened on to Jack's work. Fantastic stuff. After just a few chapters I went to Amazon and bought every book he had out. If you are a fan of Caimh's or enjoy gritty crime with a brilliant sense of humor, then check this guy out. You won't be disappointed.

A little confusing at first. Does drag you into it. Humorous. Seems to be a bunch of bumbling idiots that land themselves in hot water and are able to eventually work their way out of it. If you are into slapstick humor this book would be a good fit. I voluntarily received and reviewed a copy of this book

Wow is the main character named wrong Luck, definitely not. A sometime recovering addict that is very selfish, involves his acquaintance's in straightening out his messes. Sometimes a little slow but give it a chance the action does pick up. I received a free copy of this book with the understanding I would leave an honest review.

It may be I lost interest. In full disclosure, I only read 30% then I skimmed the rest because I felt it was dribble. Not compelling at all.

I can’t decide if I like or dislike Lucky as a character, but he is most definitely not lucky! He’s horribly flawed in a perfect way. Which, I guess means I am rooting for him! Absolutely hilarious book. Great plot, great characters! I love that there’s a second book AND a third one coming! Jack has become one of my favorite action comedy writers!

With the name ‘Lucky’, you would have to wonder if the monicker is ironic. In the case of this tale; I’d say it most definitely is.

Getting by from one scrap to the next, Lucky certainly doesn’t lead a charmed life. When club owner and underground lynchpin Magik asks Lucky to retrieve some pangolin eggs for him, fate appears to be offering up one last chance of redemption. That’s until Lucky and his motley crew come to the realisation that Pangolins do not lay eggs. Pangolins are highly prized for their meat and feted medicinal properties. Who knew that pangolins are the most trafficked mammals in the world?

Fast paced and packed with bizarre scenarios and lowlifes, it’s a shame that typos are prevalent throughout the book. Other than that gripe, I’d like to have picked up more of a sense of place. Although this tale is set in Melbourne, it could have been anywhere.

Overall, fun and strongly character driven. I look forward to the sequel.

Lots of humour and a guy just trying his best to get out of tricky situations. With little time and a lot at stake 'Lucky' is either the first or the last thing this guy should be called.
