Awakenings (A Witch's Coven Novel Book 1) Kindle Edition
Awakenings contains several mature and graphic sex scenes that are not suitable for younger readers.
A witch of formidable illusions, Sabrina runs a coven and has settled down to teach initiates in the ways of magic. But when her initiate Alessia asks for her advice and brings back painful memories for her, wheels are put into motion that bring Sabrina’s past as a servant in one of the great houses in the magical world of The Realms into the forefront.
Bound when young in servitude to Thaddeus, one of the great house lords, Sabrina tries to outlive her past, but the choices she made then have always been a specter chasing after her. When an ancient evil haunts her and tries to destroy her and Alessia, Sabrina fights back until she realizes that there is no way for her to undo the mistakes of the past. Instead she needs to find another way to survive and save Alessia and the rest of her coven.
To right her wrongs and save her coven, Sabrina must face her greatest fear: the truth she’s hidden for nearly twenty years. But ancient evils do not care for truth and only want vengeance on her for what she has done.
Interview with the author:
Question: What inspired you to write Awakenings?
Answer: I wanted to explore a character I created almost thirty years ago. Sabrina is a witch who appears in my first novel, Dorothea’s Song and I wanted to explore her origins story. I also wanted to create another series set in the magical world of The Realms. It’s a world of wizards, witches and dragons that is similar to the Renaissance era. Awakenings is also my first book in which I explore more mature themes.
Question: Can you talk about that? What made you decide that you wanted to include sex scenes in this book?
Answer: It was a difficult decision to make, but I didn’t want to censor myself. The world of The Realms is grittier than my normal writing and I wanted to explore Sabrina’s backstory in not only showing how she realizes that she becomes a witch but also her awakenings to sexual desire. Awakenings is a coming of age story with sex and magic. It’s about Sabrina discovering who she truly is and coming to terms with having hidden that from some people for a long time.
Question: Tell us a little bit more about Sabrina.
Answer: For those who have read Dorothea’s Song, they might be surprised to see where she started in life. She’s a simple girl who has no close family and works hard as a servant girl in a great house. But what I really wanted to show is her past juxtaposed with her present so that readers could see how far she’s come in life and also how much she’s changed and been affected by events. She’s an intelligent and strong woman who has carved out a nice niche for herself by starting her own coven, but she’s also been hurt and damaged. To protect herself, she’s hidden a lot away about who she is to the world. But she has a choice to make: Will she continue to protect herself or when Alissa, one of her initiates, comes to her for help, will she open up and aid her or not? She sees many similarities in Alissa and her, and when she chooses to help Alissa that sets off events that kick start the story into high gear. That’s when the fun begins because where there’s magic, there’s also magic being used for evil purposes and no matter how hard Sabrina tries, she can’t keep running from her past.

Reviewer Michele Lee:
"I loved this book by Ron Vitale! He is such a incredible story teller that you think that you are right in the story with the characters."
About the Author
During his early 20s, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and French and then went on to obtain his Master of Arts in English, at Villanova University writing his thesis on a Jungian interpretation of the works of Margaret Atwood and Alice Walker. After graduation, Ron entered the world of medical publishing, utilizing his editing and technological skills. In October 2007, Ron published his science fiction short story collection The Jovian Gate Chronicles that answers the question: What happens when humans cross paths with intelligent aliens who claim to be prophets from God? In the fall of 2008, he released his fantasy novel Dorothea's Song, a tale of a young high school student who copes with his parents' divorcing by dreaming up the story of Dorothea, an elf who lives in the magical forest.
Through 2008 to 2014 he wrote the Cinderella's Secret Witch Diaries series that definitely answers the question: What really happened to Cinderella after she married the prince? And in 2015, Ron wrote Awakenings and Betrayals, the first two books in the Witch's Coven series that tells the story of the witch Sabrina who lives in the magical world of the realms where illusions, magic and an ancient evil reign.
Currently, he is keeping himself busy, penning articles on social media and writing, and on learning how to be a good father to his kids all while working on his next novel.

Ron Vitale is a fantasy/science fiction and non-fiction author. Tired of the male hero rescuing the damsel in distress, his heroines embark on a journey of self-discovery on wildly imaginative adventures through fantastical worlds of wonder.

She finds that the Lord of the House she lives in is having midnight sex games with others in the house, there is more to him than he shows.
Sabrina is later running a school for young Witch's teaching them magic and how to control it. She takes special interest in one, Alessia.
They are going to try to right some wrongs in the past so a ghost will stop trying to kill Sabrina.
The story has lots of turmoil and trouble, friendships and love. Looking forward to the next book!

The story line started out interesting enough and kept me reading through to the end -- I skipped over the graphic pornography scenes and kept to the story, but am really upset to find that there was NO ending. No cliffhanger, nothing imaginative. It ends like any chapter, as if it was one long novel that the author decided to break up into a series. How incredibly disappointing. What a waste of time. Neither the writing nor the story is intriguing enough to read the second installment.
Regarding the graphic gratuitous sex scenes, really Ron? I'm no prude, I loved Anne Rice's Witching Hour. The sex scenes are not only well written (HOT), but they advance the story, they are integral to the plot, the seduction is key to Lasher's power and control. Here, the sex scenes are as clumsy as the depicted pubescents, the writing is creepy and uncomfortable - ewww. I skipped over them, because I wanted to see where the story was going, only to find it went no where. I was robbed! I want my time back! LOL!
Nothing really wrong with that but it's not what I was looking for/interested in. I tried to give it an honest go but stopped after about 54% of the book (kindle).
