Albert Witteveen has been working both as an operations manager and a professional tester for nearly two decades now. In 2000 he founded a still thriving company specialized in high available and high performance web hosting. In 2006 he left this company to found a company focusing especially on technical testing.

The combination of setting up complex server environments and professional testing almost automatically led to a specialization in load and stress testing. Albert speaks on international test events on performance testing and its changing focus as more and more computing is cloud based.

If you're looking to get a good base of knowledge about performance testing in a practical way, this book will do it. You'll learn basics about tools, reporting, and methodology. You'll also learn about the various ways software handles processing tasks, and thus be able to point out the most likely points of failure for any given software application.

However, this is a rough book. It has a lot of spelling errors, a lot of confusion between your/you're, and a lot of grammar errors. It feels like the book was written in a train of thought, and then never passed to an editor before publishing.

That said, I don't regret the purchase or time spent reading it, but if you can't get over spelling errors you might want to look elsewhere.

The book provides a thorough discussion of the subject that will help a newcomer to the process of developing and analyzing load tests.

The book has some good parts, but the spelling, grammar and syntax in general are just terrible. Editing is poor to non-existent, and it makes this book feel very amateur, almost blog-like.

Simple, straightforward, and as the name suggests practical. Highly recommended as the first book a novice performance tester should read.
