I would give this 1 star but it does have a kernel of a premise that is worth exploring. I recommend readers look at this story as more of a concept than a narrative. I recommend the writer take some time and try to write this as a real novel or novella. Develop characters, plot, settings. The story has potential so take it from the back of the napkin it is now written on and turn it into a well-crafted book.

A prank that goes too far-way too far.

Pierre S. Hughes takes social media fame and gives us a look-what-could-happen scenario when those with influence on social media become godlike.

Wickedly entertaining.

This plot is ripped from our headlines of social media popularity and what value that has to society and.... your life! This story takes up in the middle of the many character's lives and takes them on a literal life or death journey that has its share of plot twits and turns. If you like movies like the Saw series, you will enjoy this short, fast read.

This short read is about a small town and it's social media leaders. First off, for such a short story the author felt it necessary to give us a list of characters at the beginning...which I felt was odd and yet helpful at the same time. Secondly, this needs a good editor's scrub - not only for some simple writing misses...but also because there are things mentioned in this story that come out of nowhere...and then never to be seen again. It almost feels like there is "filler" added and fluff given to give this story more depth or intrigue...but all it did was make me tilt my head and wonder "Whaaaat?"

BUT, I do like the potential of what this HAS...it just is really rough and scattered.

I wanted to like this book but couldn't get into it because of the narration style. While sounding pretty, Hughes prefers flowery language that doesn't add to the story. As other reviewers have noted, there is an interesting premise here. But a lack of details makes this feel like I am reading an outline instead of a finished novella.

I had to put the book down when the author used an out-of-place paragraph that took me out of the story because it was completely unrelated to everything that happened before and after. The first paragraph of chapter 4 reads, "Oh, so sweet is the honeycomb that drips from the beehive in the trees-- like heaven to taste. However, without warning, as you stand salivating in its glory, the bees encased within come out roaring like a lion. They start to sting you profusely, one by one, as your body swells and the life you once had fades away into darkness..." It's poetically written and, in my opinion, a beautiful paragraph, but so out of place that I found it jarring as a reader.

This book, Prank, was a good read for me. For readers to try to understand this book and the things that take place in the little town of Silverstone, the author makes clear that parts of this story are based on events in the novel, "The Directors: Money, Power & Greed At Its Best." Names, characters, and locales can all be traced back to that novel. If the reader would like to get the full story of Chris Jones, Rayland Jones, and Bishop Goodman, they can refer to the novel “The Directors." In brief, the book is about the insane Dr. Albert Lucerne who was found guilty of killing hundreds of his patients. During the investigation, it was weirdly discovered that each death was tied not just to him but to others that he knew as well. In end, it all has to do with greed, money, and power. Things in the town up and changed for the good when Joneses took over and allowed the town to reclaim its once good name. What started as a simple prank, went sideways instead, leaving five poor important, powerful, and influential people left to defend themselves for 72 hours in the Jones Mansion as their followers decide each of their fates.
The author enjoys and loves to write, he is passionate about it, and he has this firm belief that the pen is the most powerful tool in the world for writing. I can relate to him, as I too feel the same way. Only those who like or love to read horror will no doubt enjoy reading this sinister book. The storyline is good, easy to read, some action, and suspense, the plot was fair, and the characters are just perfect. It almost felt like I was reading a script, though I wish the storyline was longer. For a self-published book, I can honestly say that I was a bit impressed. I never let myself go by bad or good reviews, as someone who likes to read, I like judging the book on my own based on what I have read. And in my case, I found this book to be well-written, enjoyable, and entertaining to read. I look forward to reading more of this author's book. I encourage the author to continue as so, great work!

As other reviewers have stated, this short story reads like a 6th grade book report in the first half. The second half is more linear, but a strange read, all the same. There is no character development, no character descriptions of any note and very little motive for the bizarre actions that occur. The author identifies as a Christian, but kills off one of the characters because she chooses forgiveness over vengeance. The whole narrative is so rushed and muddled that it's unclear if this is to be taken as a lesson, or simply another addition to the high body count. If there's a moral lesson to be had, I have no idea what it is.

The short story I found to be an easy read. It is simple to read but very engaging. I was immediately captivated by the concept of social media and its effects on those who make it big. A lot of tension inside the pages of this short, super short story. A very interesting horror backdrop. When a prank goes horribly wrong, five internet moguls are left to defend themselves for hours before their loyal followers decide their fates. There is nothing like a good nail-biter but I would have liked it to be longer.
