Parkinson's Alternatives: Walk Better, Sleep Deeper and Move Consciously; Solutions from Nature's Sensational Medicine Kindle Edition

3.1 3.1 out of 5 stars 3 ratings

TEN MILLION
Are you one of the ten million people worldwide living with Parkinson's disease? Is someone you love losing their independence or their ability to walk due to Parkinson's disease?

Possibly you have found success in medications and surgery. Perhaps you are looking for other ways to decrease the tremors in your hands, so you can enjoy a dinner out with friends. Maybe you want to improve your walking or are a lifelong runner who has had to give up exercise because of the stiffness in your legs and the pain in your back. Maybe you are reading this book to learn some easy ways to balance your brain chemistry and feel more expressive, more focused, and more successful.

ACUPUNCTURE, REIKI, CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Have you tried acupuncture for the symptoms of Parkinson's disease? Have you been thinking about how Craniosacral therapy, Integrative Manual Therapy or Reiki could improve your life?

MATRIX ENERGETICS, EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT)
Maybe someone has talked to you about the benefits of Matrix Energetics, Emotional Freedom Technique's light tapping or Nature's Sensational Medicine. Perhaps you have never even heard of any of these things but your are searching for something that will help you feel better and are open to something new.

OLD DOG?
There is a saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks," but do you know the second part of the saying?

"The fastest way to become an old dog? .... Stop learning new tricks."

CRAZY EXERCISES?
Yes, some of these exercises can seem crazy but before you decide, spend two minutes doing one of the many exercises, visualizations, movements. Spend some time looking at the colors around you or reading the research from ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine or the latest article from Amy Cuddy, a Harvard professor who has found that two minutes of "Power Posing" or standing in a Wonder Woman or Superman posture can improve testosterone levels, literally making you a more powerful leader. Striking a two minute pose, standing or moving in a particular way also decreases cortisol levels, which makes you more adaptable and less stressed.

Read the research linking dopamine to the energy of your gallbladder, even if it has been removed. In Acupuncture the gallbladder meridian is associated with the color green. It is, along with the liver a Wood Element. What if visualizing the color green flowing through your body, through your brain, through your liver and gallbladder could improve your control of movement, walking, or your facial expressions? Would it be worth spending two minutes a day?

What if visualizing yourself moving in a smooth controlled conscious way could help you in the real world to drive more safely, walk without falling and enjoy your family more. Read the research on motor imagery, on using the mind to heal the brain, on the response of dopamine to physical exercises as well as imaginative rehabilitation.

IMAGINATION
Imagination is being able to see something before it is visible before it is real in your life.

Would your life improve if you were more confident and compassionate or less angry and disappointed? What would change in the here and now if you could imagine a future, a full and independent life?

DISGUST EXERCISES
What if spending a few minutes a day thinking about disgusting food could improve your basal ganglia function. The basal ganglia is the part of the brain where surgically the deep brain stimulator is placed to suppress unwanted movements like ticks and tremors.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO FEEL BETTER?
What do you have to let go of to harness the healing in your own hands and in your own mind? Are you consciously using touch to improve your independence, your movement, or your comfort?

Easy tips and exercises to use in daily life from the fields of:
Craniosacral therapy
Integrative Manual Therapy
Reiki
Matrix Energetics
Emotional Freedom Technique
Accupressure
Nature's Sensational Medicine

KIMBERLY BURNHAM, PhD (Integrative Medicine), The Nerve Whisperer

A Complementary Medicine practitioner, Kim uses WORDS (books & poetry), health COACHING/guided visualization; HANDS-ON therapies (CranioSacral therapy, acupressure, Matrix Energetics, Reiki, Integrative Manual Therapy templates) and functional medicine (nutrition, homeopathy, herbal medicine) to help you heal.

A Private Practice CLINICIAN at New Moon Acupuncture and Wellness Clinic and phone and skype consulting. Kim's practice can be reached at (860) 221-8510 or NerveWhisperer@gmail.com

Do you want some help in healing? Walk better despite Parkinson's disease, Huntington's ataxia or Charcot-Marie-Tooth? Alternatives for autoimmune conditions like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, Lyme or lupus? Wondering how to help your child with seizures, autism, CP, scoliosis or Down syndrome? Recently told you have macular degeneration? Want eye exercises to improve driving or reading? Have chronic back or neck pain or a recent a joint replacement?

"My vision, brain and eyesight expertise started when I was 8 years old in a Colombian jungle. My father, an international businessman, helped me catch a Blue Morpho butterfly. My world was so beautiful. At 28, a professional photographer, I was diagnosed with keratoconus. With his impressive degrees and a stark white coat, an ophthalmologist diagnosed me, "You need to consider your life, in case you become blind. It is genetic, so there is nothing you can do." Off I went to massage school, a profession you can do whether you can see or not. Fortunately, I learned approaches for better eye health: massage, acupressure, nutrition, craniosacral therapy, osteopathic manual medicine, integrative manual therapy, matrix energetics ... Five years later, as the director of vision services for a large multidisciplinary clinic, no one could tell me alternative medicine doesn't work."

Kimberly's current book project is a book with many ways to say and think about peace, inner peace, world peace, peace of mind and health. When we recognize ourselves in others we are healthier and have less autoimmune diseases. Peace, Paix, Vrede, Paz, Pas, Damai, Shalom, Salaam, Mir, ... are not all words for peace in the same way. Each word is nuanced by the culture, language and people it grows out of. Each word for peace is a chance to get a different perspective and recognize our shared humanity.

Kimberly Burnham here, I have written a series of books to help you feel better and function better because I believe people who feel better, make better choices for themselves, their families and their communities. Some of the topics cover sleep, Parkinson's disease, Huntington's ataxia, natural medicine for cold and flu symptoms, diabetic neuropathy, visualization, guided imagery, motor imagery and fractals.

I also try to make the world a better place with one-on-one sessions with clients at Inland Northwest Health Services (INHS) / St Luke's Rehabilitation Institute's complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) clinic, where I work in Spokane, Washington.

I work with all sorts of people from premature babies to 92 year old grandmothers. My special interests are brain, spine and eye health. Part of this is because I have a PhD in Integrative Medicine (2006) and my dissertation focused on eliminating the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. I also work with people with multiple sclerosis, Huntington's ataxia, seizures, and autism. My grandfather died of diabetes and my uncle lost his leg to the disease that affects 25 million American, so I also work with individuals with diabetes, diabetic neuropathies, diabetic retinopathies and other autoimmune disease.

I uses INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE (energy, information and imagery), MANUAL THERAPY (Touch) & HEALTH COACHING (Words) to help you feel, move & function better. For 20 years I have used hand-on techniques and natural healing to help people with brain/spinal cord problems, including Parkinson's, autism, macular degeneration, Huntington's, diabetic neuropathy. With this move, I continue to look for ways to help physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists and other clinicians everywhere with their hardest clients in US, Canada, Europe, Asia, everywhere.

Paper Nautilus 2012: Juxtaposed Mormon Lesbian

Lisa Mangini, Kimberly Burnham, et al. (2012). Mormon Lesbian - An aphorisms, a terse saying embodying a general truth or astute observation in Paper Nautilus 2012. Lisa Mangini (Editor)

The difference 25 years can make is astonishing. In 1988, I wrote a chapter, The Secret Life of a Working Woman's Wife for Guide to Gracious Lesbian Living. I was so closeted, I only signed my first name. I published a book of poetry, Live Like Someone Left The Gate Open, Narrative Poetry from a Lesbian Mormon. And Guide to Gracious Lesbian Living is being used as an educational resource. In 2013, I tell more of my story in No Mistakes!: How You Can Change Adversity into Abundance.

POET: Kimberly Burnham, PhD, Poet, Poetry Coach, Corporate Story Teller, Developer of Sensational Medicine, Member of West Hartford Hither and Yon. Each of us can feel better and literally transform our body and ability to heal through paying attention to our senses. For me it is the same with writing poetry. In order to write a poem that sends healing and love out into the world, I have to pay attention to my senses. What do I see that moves me? Is it a color, a shape or a movement? What emotions does a piece of music bring up for me? How can I pay attention to the nuance of the words and make them more true to what is inside me and more powerful in creating good in the world?

Currently working on a Poem-A-Thon anthology for Donna Baier-Stern's Tiferet Journal.

Inner Child Press Storytellers, Authors & Poets: I recently answered "I play tennis without a net (free verse)" to questions on my favorite poetry style. The list included: Tanka/Haiku/Dodoitsu/Cinquain/Clerihew; Cobla esparsa, Sonnet, or Ode; Ghazal, Sestina, Villanelle, or Pantoum; and Isibongo, Ibitekerezo, or Hudibrastic. I try to tell a story with my poems, creating a visual or experience of the emotions and sensations with prose like poetry. Mostly the lines don't rhyme in the poems I write. Often I read poems over out loud to focus on word sounds and line flow. A great thing about being in poetry anthologies is reading diverse poets like World Healing, World Peace with many of my fellow poets in The Year of The Poet Poetry Posse.
