The Little Blue Stick (The Life of Mackenzie Pearson Book 1) Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

Life is complicated and filled with choices. Can you choose who you fall in love with? Can two wrongs make a right? Life in your late twenties is a transition period where chaos meets reality. Often we get stuck in society's claws wondering if we fit the perfect mold of a young adult. Climbing the corporate ladder, finding the perfect spouse, settling down and budgeting, being responsible and not impulsive are all what is expected of us. But what if you are a hopeless romantic looking to be swept off your feet? What if you fall in love with the wrong person? What if you are the farthest thing away from being a mature adult?

They always say timing is everything, for Mackenzie Pearson that resonates in the back of her mind. She is out of time and she is running against the clock to make decisions that will impact lives for better and for worse. This is the story of a 28 year old who thought she had it all together. She had a good career, she had great girlfriends; she had her looks and her keen sense of fashion. She had her whole life ahead of her. However, she is at a turning point and something bigger than her is shattering the world she knows. Mackenzie Pearson is pregnant, jobless, heartbroken, and, most of all, terrified. There comes a point in every woman’s life where a decision needs to be made. That decision changes everything and you might just wonder “what if?" or "why me?”. Mackenzie is there and she will walk you through her story. The story about love, sisterhood, mistakes, pain, and life.

This book captivated me the minute I started reading it. This is a story unlike any other about a truly selfless choice that the character Kenzie Is considering and the struggles that go along with it. This book is important because it openly addresses issues that many people face but do not talk about. Most people seem put together and happy but may actually be unable to sleep, depressed, anxious, or even drink too much.

Kenzie is relatable as she is human and makes mistakes; she is extremely lovable because she owns up to these mistakes and may possibly make a choice that would inspire anyone by the mere contemplation of it much less following through with it. I don't want to give away the story but I do want to tell you to read this book. It is about life's ups and downs, struggles that most would not be strong enough to fathom, the love of a family, and the mysterious ways the world works. Plus it will show you that if you feel inadequate in any way, you should stop comparing your insides to someone else's outsides. We have no idea the struggles that others are dealing with so let's stop judging and show some compassion!

It takes exceptional writing and a true grasp of the human condition to author a book that truly captivates what it means to be human, to make the right choices and the wrong choices, and to learn to forgive and love regardless of the circumstances. Jay Marren has encompassed various emotions that are typically challenging to genuinely and fully convey onto the pages, but also into the reader's mind. The struggles encountered by the main character (Kenzie) are those that are of a more sensitive and private nature; however, Marren has skillfully produced writing that not only discusses these topics, but does so in a manner respectful of the situations and relatable to an array of readers. The candid viewpoint of the main character ensnared my interest immediately, but also allowed for me (the reader) to capture a more intimate view of the mindset of this character and also allowed me to travel this journey with her from page 1 through the end. A well-written book is one that provokes conversation after its inital reading and "The Little Blue Stick" definitely achieves this. I highly recommend this book and anxiously await the next piece of writing from Jay Marren.
