MICHAEL WISEHART graduated with honors in Business Accounting, but instead of pursuing this field, he returned to school to study film. He spent the next several years honing his visual craft, which he put to good use as he took what he’d learned behind the camera and applied it to the written word.

On April 14, 2014, Michael opened his laptop and began typing what would become two multiple award-winning series: The Aldoran Chronicles, and Street Rats of Aramoor (both set within the same world, but twenty years apart). By the time his second book released, he had quit his day job, walking away from production altogether, to pursue his writing career.

I considered this book, reading the description many times before I finally decided to read it. I am SO glad I did!!

It had me teary eyed in several spots, but had a number a feel-good parts too.
It is very well written with good grammar, good spelling, and skillful writing. The story keeps a good pace and the characters are believable. Just a pleasure to read.

A thirteen year old boy is banished from his home and has to find a way to survive in a world where his kind, the Upakans, are considered outcasts. His Upakan skills come in very handy, but what he ends up finding on his adventures is what is surprising, especially for one from the Upakan race of assassins.

I'd rate this PG-13 mostly for the violence - there are a number of battles, sword fights, and deaths. There is references to rape.

I highly recommend this book.

Overall the story is generally pretty good. Ayrion is a likeable MC, and develops some fun relationships in this book. You also get a good like into the Upaka society and culture.

Also some credit to the author or editor for knowing when to use "a" or "an" in a sentence.

However, this probably should have been marketed as a stand alone prequel to the Streets of Aramoor series. Not included as the first book. Ayrion never enters Aramoor in this book, nor do you meet any of the street rats.

I also agree with another reviewer who stated that the other characters seemed to be extensions of Ayrion, rather than independent people. I will give an example of this but it will include a *SPOILER* Ayrion's family were all being shunned because of his being different (his magic). His family was hardly getting enough work to get by and were social outcasts. His dad couldn't get contracts, his mom was socially ostracized by the other women and his 16 year old sister couldn't find any boys interested in her though she was pretty. They were utterly shunned by the community. But when Ayrion was banished they chose to let a 13 year old child go out into the world on his own, rather than go with him? They chose to stay behind, knowing they were already hated, and would be even more so now that Ayrion killed the leaders son. It would have been worse for his family to stay behind than to join him in banishment. No decent parent would allow their 13 year old to go off into banishment alone and stay behind for their own comfort. This wasn't a plot hole, this was a plot canyon. Especially because Ayrion came from a loving family. To sell the "banished and alone" thing, you need a horrible and cruel family. Loving parents don't ship their kids off to what is likely their deaths, with a hug and kiss. That part of the story really didn't sit well for me.

Just finished book 2, gonna start book 3. Hoping things look up.

Entertaining! This was a quick read for me—lots of action, great characters. Love the author’s world and the fighting scenes, and how the races and their relationships were described. The river pirates/captains were also fun to meet. It was grammatically correct and so on, no issues there. Certainly, I can’t say this is the absolute best writing I’ve encountered but it was clean. Decent writing with an extremely compelling storyline set in a fantastic world...so, definitely worth the time I gave to it.

The map included is incredibly detailed. I poured over it before I began, hoping I’d get to see as many places as possible mentioned. I followed our MC on it as best I could on the map during the story, though at the end there was a city mentioned that wasn’t labeled on it. As it was the last stop in the book, I was bummed I didn’t know where they ended up visually. But that’s ok. I’ll live lol.

I’ll definitely continue on!

WARNING: For parents of readers, you should know there is an almost rape scene. There was no doubt what was going to happen to the girl before it’s stopped. It is stopped, however, and the perpetrator is dealt with, but it affected me enough I thought it worth a mention.

I read this because it seemed like something my 10 year old and I might read together. She's still reading another series, but I can't wait to read the next book! This was such a fun book- a good story full of action and adventure. It had enough description and character development to pull you in, but the story moved quickly making for a very enjoyable read. I think it would appeal to young and old readers alike!

I started this series by reading the first two books in the White Tower series. Banished is the tale of hue Aryion, one of the central characters in the White Tower series, came to be banished by the Upakas and how he had already become a hero before ever meeting the High King of Aldor. An excellent beginning to a fabulous tale.
