Penny Jordan is one of Mills & Boon’s most popular authors. Sadly Penny died from cancer on 31st December 2011, aged 65. She leaves an outstanding legacy, having written 187 books for Harlequin/Mills & Boon over a career spanning 30 years and selling over 100 million books around the world. These included the phenomenally successful A PERFECT FAMILY, TO LOVE, HONOUR AND BETRAY, THE PERFECT SINNER and POWER PLAY.

Penny lived most of her life in Cheshire, UK. Her significant contribution to women’s fiction was recognised in 2011, when the Romantic Novelists’ Association presented Penny with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

It's awful that some readers would give a low rating because of their own mistakes; after all, aside from the manga characters on the cover, "Harlequin comics" is right there with the book title! So here I am to offer support to Penny Jordan & Akiko Hazuki for their creative work. The novel was written in the eighties but the comic adaptation proved surprisingly enjoyable. I had a good laugh at how the heroine went from long-haired to short!

The Manga Art is classic, and pretty. It kind of reminds me of astro boy. But you get used to the style (it definetly is different than modern manga style)

『愛なき砂漠』は小説が発刊当時、今から２５年程前に読み、
今もなお忘れ難く、１番好きな作品です。
コミック版を読んだ事で、また再び小説を読みたいと
強く思い始めましたが、既に絶版となっており、
購入も難しいと知り、ガッカリしていた最中、
アマゾンで幸運にも購入する事が出来ました！！
内容は断然小説の方が良いです。

小さな子供を暗殺から守る為、成り行きから契約結婚をする
クレアとラウール。
混血児として生まれた生い立ちが心の傷となり、
女性･･･とりわけ西洋の女性を信じられず、素直になれないラウール。
そして、親代わりとなり弟の学費の為に、高額な謝礼から
偽りの結婚を承諾してしまうクレア。

最初は子供を守る為の偽装結婚であったが、いつしか互いを
愛してしまう。
しかし誤解があり、二人は心を通わせる事が出来ない。
そんなもどかしさから、二人は一線を越えてしまう。

アラブ特有の官能的なラウールの魅力と、クレアの切ないまでの
美しさ、二人の狂おしいまでの想いが活字を通して伝わって来た。
いつの間にか、主人公の気持ちになり読んでいた。
長い時を経ても、今もなお鮮明である。

アマゾンから届いたら、早速読みたい。
きっと再び、胸が切なく、熱くなるだろうけど･･･（笑）。

ハーレクイン初期の素晴らしい作品です。
是非に是非に！！　お勧めします。
