THE CHESAPEAKE: Tidewater Sagas Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

THE CHESAPEAKE: Six books in the series --Tales & Scales; Legends, Yarns, & Barnacles; Oyster Buyboats, Ships & Steamed Crabs; A Man Born to Hang Can't Drown; Country Cornpone Cornucopia; and Tidewater Sagas provides the shared memories of those who lived life to the fullest in the Chesapeake region.
This group of assembled scribes, poets and storytellers aspires to one goal and one goal only; to entertain the reader. Most have been working hard at achieving the summit of worldly acclaim for decades.
I asked each of them to contribute one or more penned pieces of prose at various times and, one by one, they agreed without any threats of undue duress. The youngest to join the group, at least he was younger than the rest, was Lenny Rudow. Lenny, while a student at St. Mary's College of Maryland, decided to enter our Fish Story contest, and in 1988, he won, opening up a long stint at THE CHESAPEAKE and leading to a career as a professional outdoor life writer.
That was thirty years ago. As for the oldest in the crowd, the first one to claim it, gets the nod. Jack Rue, Beth & Fred McCoy, John Peterson, Vi Englund, Pepper Langley, Capt. Joe Lore, Mel Brokenshire, Mark Robbins, Alan Brylawski and Patty Muchow have now been elevated to new roles past the Pearly Gates where they undoubtedly hold court with a Heavenly audience.

Quaint, Folksily Written Columns from a Bygone Era; No Profanities, No CliffhangersByAndy AndersonHALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWERon January 17, 2018Format: Kindle EditionThis is another compilation of columns that were originally written and published years ago. In the series, I actually think this is my favorite of the bunch.
There's a wide variety in this. Rossignol has tongue-in-cheek humor, while Capt. Larry Jarboe provides fishing tips for winter in the region.
Several of the other columns are especially interesting, written in a folksy, easy-reading style. I'm not finished with the book quite yet, but, as I stated, this volume is my favorite.
BOTTOM LINE
Five stars out of five.

MURDER DU JOUR: VICTIM'S VOICE

by KEN ROSSIGNOL

https://www.amazon.com/kindle-vella/story/B09Q2W6W6B

This saga is the voice of the victims. The story of the social justice warriors, innocence project champions, and the misunderstood criminals who were products of their environment is well told and documented. There are few chances, perhaps none, for the victims of murders to speak. Victim statements read by families at the sentencing of killers are ignored by the media and often by judges. These true crime stories are told from the victims' point of view, fictionalized, yes, but real.

Great, fun book to read!! This was an enjoyable read after some rather intense science fiction books I have read recently. If I were to recommend this book, it would be for someone enjoys something that requires not a lot of imagination behind each of the stories or if they have the electronic form, it would be a fun one to have on either a long trip or a commute into work were there is a lot of stress in the driving produced. It also is a great read for someone who wants a fun funny short story book just before bed. Not every story is on the funny side but a good portion of them are found to be that way.

Seen the name "Tony Marconi" present near the start of the 50 available chapters and knew right away I was in for a rollicking good time - 'Breakfast Bound' and 'What's up Doc?' being my two favorite for the laughs when kids experience country cookin' for the first time and the antics of a most irregular tree doctor respectively. I love it when authors provide an active toc in a collection so you can bounce around and explore the contents in your own fashion such as the historical anecdotes provided by Fred McCoy which are always most welcome including gems like 'Our Dogs' (training bird dogs) and 'HAZEL' (living thru a hurricane -never even knew gas refrigerators existed before). Be sure to also read 'Baseball and the Early Days' by Lou Clements and 'Disasters: Blizzards & Hurricanes' by Ken Rossignol, too (mention of the Knickerbocker Theater Disaster lead me to added research on this catastrophic event of which I was most interested). Really enjoyed this assortment and am looking forward to reading more of 'The Chesapeake' !

This collection contains so much maritime-themed reading material -- it's a LOT -- and certainly worth the cost. Especially since you're getting 6 books in one.

And you know what? So many individual stories throughout the collection were very interesting to me -- and I would assume most other readers. There's dangerous sea-faring adventures (kind of), hilarious memories, jokes, and various other fun stories about the Chesapeake area.

For some examples, I really enjoyed the one called "Presidential Yachts", "Breakfast Bound" (honestly, I'm a cereal person too, just like those kids), "The Soul of a Fisherman" (which truly had such beautiful descriptions, it was like reading poetry), and the chapter called "Disasters: Blizzards & Hurricanes" which told of some terrifying storms.

This book is definitely not one of the genres I usually read. That being said, it was a very enjoyable read. When I started it I wasn't sure I would like it, but it "grew on me" the more I read. I believe it has me more willing to try a book that's not in one of my usual genres. The older articles show how people spoke back then.
I do recommend this book especially if you find you are due for a change of place.
Enjoy!

This collection of stories has most everything from sailing to puppies. There is even a story about an angel and superman saving an island from floating away. Seriously this book provides a look at values such as family, friendship,, and moral attitudes as they should still be today, but sadly are not. I am thankful to Mr. Rossignol for putting these gems to print so they do not disappear. These stories are fairly brief allowing those with limited time to read each in a single session. I believe that if you honor family, friendship, truth and right being right you can strike gold with just a little digging in each and every story.

This is probably more than you want to read. But, please stay with me. Our neighbors had a Basset Hound named Maisy. The basset always wags her tail It doesn't matter what you do she's always happy when she's with me. When the neighbors moved away I missed her. So when we went on trips, I took a Ty Baby Basset that I named Masita (Little Maisy). Masita then became the blogger for our trips. When I read The Chesapeake Tidewater Sagas I thought of Masita's Blogs. I enjoyed reading them and highly recommend them.

The sixth in a great series from Ken. How lovely because being the last this wraps things up in one great read., going from the beginning, through the Chesapeake and with no dialog about fishing, but just clean and good fun. So the final in a saga of books about the Tidewaters, I love Ken's awesome and charming style, and recommend this read to all my following, family and friends. Therefore I give Tidewater Sagas a full five stars rating based on awesome integral history.

Ken's series of books about the Chesapeake are the perfect traveling companion. They are filled with short stories written by multiple individuals that Ken has gathered through the years and compiled into books. Thus they are the perfect book to always have available on your Kindle/Nook, or whatever, for layovers in airports, flights, or simply some unplanned spare time with each story being completed when you have the time. Few books today are written in this form and reminds of my old traveling companion from many years ago, "The Reader's Digest."

The stories expose insights in everyday life in and around the Chesapeake area of Southern Maryland, including some of the "Good Ole Boy" personalities and backroom deals that were present in those times. Each is an enjoyable read, or if you are not particularly interested in that particular story, you can move quickly on to the next one that will interest you.

As always Ken, the author, bring his unique and enjoyable style together in the final product. The book is also a bit of "frozen" history of a time when it was great to live in beautiful Southern Maryland.
