Cynthia Brown received a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1977, but she was already captivated by computers. She spent most of her career as an academic, teaching at Indiana University, Northeastern, and Portland State University. She was also a Member of Technical Staff at GTE laboratories and wrote a newsletter about technical analysis of bond futures for Thompson Financial. She served as Dean of the College of Computer Science at Northeastern and as Chair of the Computer Science Department at Portland State.

In recent years Professor Brown has focused on teaching programming to non-computer science majors using VBA, the programming language built into Excel and other Microsoft products. She is very interested in making the concepts of programming accessible and interesting to a broader audience that includes more women and people who might not initially see themselves in a technical role. She is currently retired and living in Portland, Oregon.

The book explains how to program in Vba in a way that is easy to follow. Very good reference to videos.

This was required for a class I took. I used it once during the exam, and it was easy to search through quickly. 5/5 stars because it's a textbook that DOESNT cost a million dollars.

Why so many pages devoted to the elements of a computer? The font used for examples in code is very fuzzy.

Great book with great content but the example pictures are difficult to read and at times impossible to decipher. I would find a different book if you want easy to read examples that don't look like they were scanned in instead of typed.

Great way to learn without going to school. I hope that the next course is available online also. With the files and videos available online, it made the course go very smoothly.

Very detailed, helpful for beginners, like me. a little help with videos.

It is very difficult to read because the screen printouts have very bad quality and you cannot see examples or coding.
Otherwise the book might be good but I gave up because I could not read it.

It is quite a good book spoiled by some poor quality diagrams which detract from the result. It's separate treatment of VBA for Mac is refreshing. Most authors let Mac users work it out the hard way.
