Story Falling in love with Lenny should have been the end to all of Anita's troubles. For her, it's only the beginning, when family secrets start unravelling. His ex-wife, Natasha, is succumbing to a mysterious disease. Can Anita compete with her shadow? Coming back to his childhood home, Ben is unprepared for the secret: his mother, Natasha, who used to be a brilliant pianist, is losing herself to mysterious disease. His father’s new wife, Anita, reminds him of the way she used to look. Lenny goes as far back as the moment he met Natasha during WWII, when he was a wounded warrior and she—a star, brilliant yet illusive. Natasha was a riddle to him then, and to this day, with all the changes she has gone through, she still is. Fooling German espionage may cost Lenny the trust of the girl who captured his heart. Will Natasha discover his secret D-Day reports, disguised as love letters to another woman? After D-Day, her photograph appears on the most-wanted German propaganda posters. Who is the girl with the red beret? Why does she step into his life when he is led by SS soldiers to the gallows? What makes her propose marriage to a condemned man?

Ms. Poznansky’s book My Own Voice captured my heart on page one. It is an enchanting gem that one easily can become enthralled as the story unfolds and you enter the heart and mind of Anita, who is very young and marries Lenny, who is much older and worldly than she is. The emotions of the characters are so poignantly told that they will tug at your heartstrings.

The portrayal of the emotions of the characters will sweep you into their world and out of yours. In, each of them you find something that touches you to your very soul, and find something that you will identify with.

I felt the emotions of each character, especially Anita’s, as she flounders her way through the maze of her life as she seeks to find herself.

Brilliantly told story, I can’t wait to read the next in this series.

It was interesting to hear the thinking-voice of a person few readers would ever hear in person, especially those from outside the USA. One might only every hear such an accent in a film. One may have some preconceived ideas about the person who speaks with that kind of accent, and less so, how they might be thinking. This book provides an insight into one individual only, but is an interesting experience of that person's life and understanding of her surroundings.

I knew Uvi Poznansky’s story My Own Voice (Still Life With Memories – Book One), was going to get to me, from the moment Anita tells Lenny, “Say anything apart from love.”
As an avid fan of this author and, having read much of her work over the years, I was correct – this story is yet another captivating treasure.
Anita is a naïve, child-like woman who strives to measure up to her lover Lenny’s expectations, while the memory of his first wife Natasha remains a continuous interference between them as a soon to be married couple – Natasha’s musical genius, her style and grace, and the love Lenny had for her doesn’t seem to dissipate over time - according to Anita. There are so many emotions tugging each character’s heart strings, including Ben's, Lenny’s son, that this reader’s compassion for Anita’s intense predicament inspired me to read the book aloud, at times, to comprehend Anita’s mind-set of never feeling cherished, understood, or even appreciated as a person in her own right, while the other characters fight their internal battles - Especially when the secrets of this dysfunctional three-some continue to unfold...
My Own Voice is a brilliant beginning for the Still Life With Memories Series. Further, I find when Lenny, the seemingly, uncaring husband and writer who can’t seem to finish his work, states, “Every word gets me closer to the end,” conveys a sentiment that rings true for all concerned, including the reader.
Being said, luckily for Ms. Poznansky’s many fans, the series continues onward to several other installments, which you won’t want to miss. My Own Voice is a highly recommended read, and five glorious stars are awarded for tight literary prose, a highly imaginative storyline, and unique characterization. Bravo, Ms. Poznanski!

I wanted to like this, but I didn't. It was so drawn out and confusing.Narration by Heather Jane Hogan was almost unbearable for me. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Simple writing with repetitive phrases throughout. The language seems childlike or similar to one without skill. Maybe poetic, but boring nonetheless.

My Own Voice (Still Life with Memories Book 1) by Author Uvi Poznansky

After having read and reviewed several fictional novels by Author Uvi Poznansky, I continue to be a huge fan of her writing style. She has the mesmerizing and enchanting effect of drawing her readers into the heart and soul of her characters.

In this novel, Poznansky is mainly expressing the voice of Anita and the role she plays in the story
Apart from Love: (Still Life with Memories, Volume 1 and 2)  "My Own Voice" is the first installment in a three part series which creatively portrays the voices of the three main characters, Lenny, Ben his son, and Anita...Lenny's young wife who is approximately the same age as Ben. In doing so, the reader is given the opportunity to have a more in depth or private view of each of their lives from their own personal perspectives.

In the original story, Ben who is now 27 years old, "grudgingly returns home many years after the divorce of his parents, Lenny and Natasha. He finds that there is a mutual attraction between his father's young wife Anita and himself."

In Book 1, we now get to focus on Anita's colorful character with the stories of Lenny and Ben in separate editions. Anita is only a mere seventeen years of age when she becomes involved with Lenny, a much older man who is married to Natasha at the time. Anita bears a striking resemblance to Natasha although she is very rough around the edges. Lenny appears to love her but spends a great deal of his efforts trying to mold her into the image of his ex-wife who suffers from the devastating effects of Alzheimer's. The lives of Anita, Lenny, and Ben create a very intriguing portrayal of a bizarre love triangle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accomplished portrayal of a fascinating family situation

17 year old Anita meets an older man, Lenny. In her simple way she decribes to the reader her love for the married man and slowly we learn about her past and the odd dynamic between the couple. The situation gets more complicated by the illness of Lenny's ex-wife and the arrival of his son Ben. The characters are drawn perfectly.
There is also a great supportive cast in form of aunt Hadassa and her sisters .
Poznansky's writing style is sharp and poignant as she uncovers the deeper layers of her characters with a superb literary quality. Casually analytical and close to the bone of truth, this is an excellent and accomplished portrayal of a fascinating and captivating family situation.
