The portrayal of the emotions of the characters will sweep you into their world and out of yours. In, each of them you find something that touches you to your very soul, and find something that you will identify with.
I felt the emotions of each character, especially Anita’s, as she flounders her way through the maze of her life as she seeks to find herself.
Brilliantly told story, I can’t wait to read the next in this series.
As an avid fan of this author and, having read much of her work over the years, I was correct – this story is yet another captivating treasure.
Anita is a naïve, child-like woman who strives to measure up to her lover Lenny’s expectations, while the memory of his first wife Natasha remains a continuous interference between them as a soon to be married couple – Natasha’s musical genius, her style and grace, and the love Lenny had for her doesn’t seem to dissipate over time - according to Anita. There are so many emotions tugging each character’s heart strings, including Ben's, Lenny’s son, that this reader’s compassion for Anita’s intense predicament inspired me to read the book aloud, at times, to comprehend Anita’s mind-set of never feeling cherished, understood, or even appreciated as a person in her own right, while the other characters fight their internal battles - Especially when the secrets of this dysfunctional three-some continue to unfold...
My Own Voice is a brilliant beginning for the Still Life With Memories Series. Further, I find when Lenny, the seemingly, uncaring husband and writer who can’t seem to finish his work, states, “Every word gets me closer to the end,” conveys a sentiment that rings true for all concerned, including the reader.
Being said, luckily for Ms. Poznansky’s many fans, the series continues onward to several other installments, which you won’t want to miss. My Own Voice is a highly recommended read, and five glorious stars are awarded for tight literary prose, a highly imaginative storyline, and unique characterization. Bravo, Ms. Poznanski!
After having read and reviewed several fictional novels by Author Uvi Poznansky, I continue to be a huge fan of her writing style. She has the mesmerizing and enchanting effect of drawing her readers into the heart and soul of her characters.
In this novel, Poznansky is mainly expressing the voice of Anita and the role she plays in the story Apart from Love: (Still Life with Memories, Volume 1 and 2) "My Own Voice" is the first installment in a three part series which creatively portrays the voices of the three main characters, Lenny, Ben his son, and Anita...Lenny's young wife who is approximately the same age as Ben. In doing so, the reader is given the opportunity to have a more in depth or private view of each of their lives from their own personal perspectives.
In the original story, Ben who is now 27 years old, "grudgingly returns home many years after the divorce of his parents, Lenny and Natasha. He finds that there is a mutual attraction between his father's young wife Anita and himself."
In Book 1, we now get to focus on Anita's colorful character with the stories of Lenny and Ben in separate editions. Anita is only a mere seventeen years of age when she becomes involved with Lenny, a much older man who is married to Natasha at the time. Anita bears a striking resemblance to Natasha although she is very rough around the edges. Lenny appears to love her but spends a great deal of his efforts trying to mold her into the image of his ex-wife who suffers from the devastating effects of Alzheimer's. The lives of Anita, Lenny, and Ben create a very intriguing portrayal of a bizarre love triangle.

There is also a great supportive cast in form of aunt Hadassa and her sisters .
Poznansky's writing style is sharp and poignant as she uncovers the deeper layers of her characters with a superb literary quality. Casually analytical and close to the bone of truth, this is an excellent and accomplished portrayal of a fascinating and captivating family situation.
