The book is good at giving an introduction to HTML5 and CSS3, and is good as a reference book. The book could use at least one example of an entire HTML5 and CSS3 example of a webpage. The snippets were well presented, but an entire example would have been great.

Received the print version today and have looked through it and it has very good and easy to follow code and explanations. It looks to be a great reference resource for experienced web designers. I am very glad I purchased it, but very disappointed that it is in black & white -- especially the sections on color, backgrounds and color text. I suggest adding a note in the Amazon order section that printed book is in black & white.

I am about 1/4 of the way through the book. I am pretty comfortable with HTML and am learning CSS3 through an online program. I bought this book so that I could more fully understand the basics before getting into advanced CSS. I am reading this from cover to cover and while it is a bit of a refresher for me, I think it is useful for beginners. I had to post a review before getting further into the book, however, to comment on the incredible number of errors I'm seeing - very simple things like closing a tag! I find it hard to believe the coding wasn't checked more closely! This might be very confusing to people who rely on seeing it stated correctly. Seriously... a couple errors and I likely wouldn't review. I'll update more as I finish the CSS part...

I bought this book to brush up on HTML and especially to learn CSS. I've put together websites before and cobbled my way through HTML 4 by trial and error and starting from templates. The challenge came up to build a site for a sim racing group called ART SIM racing and I decided to build a site entirely from scratch with no templates or foundations. After a brief look at HTML 5 I knew I needed to learn Css and this book helped with that. I am proud of what I built entirely from scratch with this book for reference.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Useful Book

As the title suggests, this is a brief introduction to creating web pages using HTML 5 and CSS 3. The book is succinct and manages to cover a lot of ground in a relatively short space of time. It is actually very effective in providing the knowledge to get an initial website up and running quickly. The explanations are necessarily brief, but enough information is provided so you know what to search for if you need more details. Although I have published a website previously, I was not familiar with Cascading Style Sheets since I had used a WYSIWYG web development program. I found the explanation and examples of CSS3 very helpful. Code examples that had been supplied as pictures instead of text were more difficult to read that they should have been; many were presented as text anyway. I did find a few errors in the book, mostly obvious, like missing or changed end-tags; I also remember seeing references to Internet Explorer 12 - which of course does not exist! My only other 'complaints' are that navigation elements didn't seem to get enough explanation, and the book did not provide clear details for "responsive web design" - perhaps not surprising for a quick introduction. For responsive web design (to make your site re-size automatically for phones and tablets) just see the great tutorials at w3schools.
