An excellent way to combat stress, so prevalent today

An excellent way to combat stress, so prevalent today
This book is brief enough and valuable enough to reread daily. People, new to meditation would benefit. Those who seek self awareness and improvement would as well. Reading in the morning could set the tone for the day as decisions are made constantly based on thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Reviewing the book at night and picking out a few decisions for self reflection might lead to forming better ones in days to come. I can imagine sitting n a garden on a bench with painting supplies, ear phones for music, or a musical instrument and contemplating the pleasure of being present in the here and now. Be at peace with the knowledge that informed behavior rather than visceral, dinosaur brain decision making is a preferred skill that can improve with practice and mindfulness. Maybe, due to stress, worries, and milieu, it's a far cry from the norm. But stress can lead to an early grave or illnesses. Another little book, to take along is: The Art of Peace by Morihei Uesiba. There's more good advice in a little package, referring to the hard copy.

If you realize this is a VERY short, simple book, then you will like it if you enjoy simple, spiritual principles. It's just a description of a dozen or so principles of Eastern religion that translate very well for those of the West. No big whoop. Takes an hour to read, but each little one page chapter is worth some reflection. I enjoyed it. Very basic, but well written. Nice.

This book could be read in a half an hour but it is definitely worth reading again and again. Perhaps the chapters can be read individually as a kind of daily Zen affirmation. This is the first book that I've read by Tai Sheridan but it will definitely not be the last.

This book was extremely short and simple, which is both good and bad. I believe I got it for free so I can't complain but if you are expecting a longer book you will be disappointed. However, a lot of wisdom can be found in small packages, and the whole point of the book is to simply things and just sit with your thoughts, so, there's that.

I would call these short little lessons or meditations. You can read them all the way through to get an overview of the concepts and then read them more deeply one at a time in the future. It's nice to sit and meditate on the words.

This was similar to another book I recently read, and I liked the other book slightly better. Mindfulness for Beginners in Plain English: Practical Guide with Mindfulness solution, exercises & tips for anxiety, by Charnita Arora. They are both short and sweet enough to check out at the same time and see which one you like best.

I've been practicing mindfulness and it's helped me with grief over pregnancy loss as well as eating better, exercising and other areas of life. I recommend this book for any purpose that mindfulness can help. (

I just started the practice of sitting quietly. This is my first book about it. At first glance, it appears overly simplistic because it appears to lack substance. But when you slow down, start at the beginning by putting that first section into practice, you see how much this book has to offer. What worked for me is reading the book through - it really didn't take long at all - and then re-reading the first section to begin to learn how to sit quietly. Once I began to get that, I re-read a section that appealed to me - to my needs or interests - and sat quietly in that mindset. I was going through a period of anxiety. This really helped me. And I continue to sit quietly every day. Sometimes for a minute, sometimes more. I do know that I feel better. So I'm giving this book 5 stars because it is easy to apply and is quite effective.

I love this book. I don't know if it will really help me to make meditation part of my life, but I feel like it will. It is short. It is simple. Both of the those can be both good and bad. I tend to be a bulk snob when it comes to information. The more information, and the more complex that information is, the more likely I am to trust in that information as truthful and useful. I have to throw those out for Buddha in Blue Jeans. My first reaction that it couldn't be this simple has been dissuaded by some rather successful meditation sessions. Of course I've had many more attempts than successes. I'm so used to trying to analyze and understand every thought that it's hard to trust and let go. But I'm trying, and every time I reread the book I get some new insight or trick to try.

Having said all that, I should state that if you are looking for a self-help book with lots of helpful hints and guidance, you may be disappointed. It leaves a lot up to the reader, which is the point, but still, some of us like being led by the leash into new experiences.

Indeed it’s a extremely short book, it must be the shortest i’ve ever buy. It gets straight to the point, no background stories, very practical for those who wants to build the meditation habit. Read it one time, practice as much as you can, repeat the day after and so on.

I recommend it.
