...has everything you could want action, suspense and romance. Who needs to spend $10.00 on a movie ticket when you can take a great ride at home. - Everyday Life
I found out the main character is an engineer - and a female - so of course that drew me in immediately and I was hooked! So much suspense and drama in the book! The book kind of reminds me a bit of the
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - which is one of my favorites. Strong female lead, technical stuff going on, smart ladies, ACTION! - Concert Katie
Just when I thought I had figured out one piece of the puzzle another character was introduced or something in the story shifted and I was completely thrown off balance... Last night I was reading, it was almost 1:00 AM and I said out loud... to the couch, apparently, since nobody else was awake... I can't figure out "who done it." Come on... you know the old line attached to all mysteries... WHO DONE IT!?! -
Griffin's Honey
Right from the get-go you can't help but feel that trouble just follows Jen Jones around. The chemistry between Jen and David is right there from the beginning. Even David has a secret... -
Busy Bumble Bee
As a mystery/thriller fan I am used to playing the detective game myself as the plot progresses. With every twist I was forced to reevaluate and suspect a different character and by the three quarter of the book I had suspected each character at least once. -

Rachelle Ayala wove a love story that wasn't a fairy tale and mixed it with enough suspense that I didn't want to put the book down! Broken Build radiated forgiveness, faith, and love & taught the readers how forgive as well. -

Jen Jones is a software programmer in charge of complicated "builds" for a company owned by David Jewell. She has big problems. The programs keep failing (causing a broken build) and the brother of an ex-boyfriend is blackmailing her. She must steal code from her company to satisfy his demands. Jen is hiding from the world, afraid that she'll lose her job if her real identity is revealed.

David Jewell is obsessed with finding his daughter, kidnapped as a baby from his house. He believes his dead wife's family stole their daughter. He needs enough money to find the girl, now age six. He doesn't know his software engineer is the woman he blames for the girl's abduction.

Jen's blackmailer is murdered and the kidnappers of David's child demand a copy of the code that might make him rich. Jen and David are thrown together and soon develop a strong attraction. Trouble is that Jen can't love this man because she knows he'll hate her when her identity is revealed.

This complicated plot weaves many lives together, springing surprises along the way, just like a complex computer system. The answers to all the riddles might heal or they might blow everything apart. The "broken build" is a delicate problem to solve. Can Jen work a miracle? Will her skills mend broken lives or is she facing more broken promises? She must be courageous in the face of pain and danger.

I enjoyed learning about the intricate process of completing a software "build" and the "techy" terms did not interfere with my enjoyment of this well-written suspense. You can see that the author knows her subject well and portrays her characters with great skill.

If you're looking for a romantic thriller that is strong on pace and, writing and character, then Broken Build will do the trick. When Jen's (a build engineer) boyfriend is killed as he waits for her outside her work, Jen is thrown into a terrifying mystery where everything she holds dear is shattered. The search for the killers and the truth takes the reader down a complicated path of twists and turns and long-held secrets.
This is a book that requires good attention: the pace is swift, the writing skilled, the characters (many) are succinctly drawn, the techno jargon just enough to be comprehensible, and the love affair between Jen and her boss loaded with enough ups and downs to keep you guessing.
Broken Build is well written and edited although the number of characters and plot twists are somewhat confusing - and at times credibility is stretched - and for that reason I was tempted to a 3-star rating but in all honestly I was impressed by the writing and the fact that the author worked hard to make this a really intriguing read. This is not light reading, nor is it for the fainthearted. It's a tough story glanced with both violence and tenderness - but it is a book that will hold its intrigue and suspense to the end. And that's all a thriller lover needs.

Romance, suspense, love, and betrayal abound in this book. Rachelle Ayala did a fine job generating an intriguing plotline and creating a series of interesting characters.

With a new look and a new job, computer-savvy Jen Jones is determined to make up for past mistakes--blackmail and murder notwithstanding.

Though not above using rich, married women to help fund is new venture, Dave Jewel is still grieving his deceased wife and the disappearance of his only child. He harbors great resentment toward the woman he believes is responsible. Little does he know that woman now works for him.

When things heat up between Jen and Dave, it's only a matter of time before all of her secrets are revealed. Will their tumultuous relationship survive the truth?

I love a good suspense/mystery, and the twists and turns in this book gave me plenty of what I was looking for. I did, however, find the "tech talk" to be somewhat distracting at times. Though I understand the author's desire to show Dave as a tortured soul, for me, his attitude and actions toward Jen and the women he used, made it difficult for me to like him until the very end.

Overall, this was a great read. I will definitely look for more of Ayala's work.

This book is full of suspense, shocking twists, secrets, and romance. Jen had plastic surgery and changed her name to keep her past and secrets hidden. She lives with the guilt of her past. In order for her to be happy she must learn to forgive herself, and move on. This book has some great life lesions. This Author is Amazing. I love the details, and inspiration she has put into this book. I will be looking for more books by Rachelle Ayala. I hope you read this book. The Twist, and turns, and suspense had me glued to this book. I was so confused at times. I'm thankful the book ended the way it did!

Sample from Chapter 9 - The crack of shattering glass and a loud bang startled her. A hissing sound blew out of a canister. Jen scrambled to her feet with the help of her crutches. Her eyes watered and her lungs burned as if breathing in fire. Gagging and coughing, she stumbled out the front door and dove into the lawn. Her eyes stung, and she quickly plucked out her soft contact lenses. Male voices and footsteps approached.

Sample from Chapter 30 - How could she resist him when her heart was already his, Tender, and tingly, his kisses swirled like a lover's hand, carefully removing layers from her heart, peeling off her defenses, and threatening to undress her soul.

I enjoyed this story that just kept getting more and more interesting. The action was non stopping. At times I got a little confused about who did what, but the characters were all second guessing themselves too. It all got sorted in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Twisty & techy romantic suspense
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 13, 2012
A smart & fascinating read with vivid writing and a very likeable main character (Jen) who is strong, intelligent and independent, but also has a vulnerability that is perhaps what endeared her to me. The book kicks off with suspense and mystery in abundance, there is something for everyone here, be it the mystery, technology or the romance that draws you in. Jen is a computer whiz who takes a job working for Dave's startup company. He is someone from her past but he doesn't recognise her having altered her appearance so much. Things soon heat up!

This book has a sophisticated storyline and good depth of characters, but be aware of the tech talk - although intriguing, it was beyond my understanding, but thankfully it didn't affect my following of the plot. There are some chapters where the pace drops off, and some moments where I got lost, so I was going to give 4 stars. But because I liked Jen, the story wasn't predictable and held me in suspense until in the end, I went for 5 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars I bit of a slow read.

It felt like this was a book with two different authors. Still engaging enough to pull me through to the end, but felt a little bit schizophrenic at times. It seemed like two different genre's that were vying for attention instead of blending seamlessly together.

I picked this up as it was a good book to read for a challenge I am doing.

The story is a brilliant way of telling Love, Betrayal, Hope and Redemption. Based around a computer company. A woman with secrets, a man who wants to know the truth about what happened 6 years ago. Police involved, murder and mayhem.

Will be reading more Rachelle Ayla books in the future.
