I've been a fan of James Somers since reading "The Chronicles of Soone" several years ago. I've found all of his books to be action-packed page-turners. With "Fallen," I feel that his writing has reached a new level of impressiveness. His characters are richer and more nuanced than before. A good example of this is "Charlotte," a vampire acquaintance (and semi-friend and partial ally) to Brody. She, in fact, becomes even more interesting in the next book. And Oliver James is very cool!

My one nit-pick is that the main protagonist, Brody, is supposedly seventeen. Yet, at the beginning of the book, he's acting and behaving much younger than that. Still....I got pretty attached to Brody at the beginning of the book, especially given what happens to him shortly after arriving in London.

I would also say that this book is a little dark. There's much more evil than good in this one. And the circumstances, at times, are pretty grim. Still, it's very absorbing. Once I got into it, it was very hard to put the book down. I finished it in a day. I'm now halfway into Book 2.

This is definitely worth your time, especially if you at all like fantasy fiction.

Really loved this book, the whole series was great and I can't wait to get into the follow up series RAGE! This author, a former pastor, writes a great book that honors God without being preachy. As a Christian myself I love that I can read a book without needing to skip a lot of sex and foul language. These books would make great family reading, for those with older kids. I think it is great to find such a great author AND to be able to read a lot of his work on KindleUnlimited for a basic fee rather than buying a lot of books that I won't likely read more than once. Of course, I may well buy this series and the follow up as I do often read books more than once if I like the author and James Somer is one of my faves.

This was an average/middle of the road read. Very little editing problems. Good plot. Good descriptives....but really didn't grab me enough to make me want to get the next book in the series. Even though it was well written, something was lacking. Just not interesting enough to continue on with reading the series. Besides, I think I'm getting tired of full length books being divided up into parts called a series, in order for the author to make more money. This is just getting old.

I am not a writer or a professional reviewer so I am not gonna go on forever. Basically this author does a great job presenting this for free and on Kindle format, especially considering he's indie. The story has a strong Christian element without being "preachy" which made it easy to enjoy and identify with. Most people long to be unique, special, more powerful, etc..that is why certain series (like Harry Potter) do so well. This book also utilizes that longing to keep readers enthralled. I am about 60% finished with this first one and will be purchasing the second in about 10 minutes. I would like to thank the author for letting me read this for free and for creating a professional novel without mistakes on the kindle.

I picked up this book for free, thinking, "why not". It would have been worth the cost of a current best seller! Fallen gives some very unique views of beings from ancient lore and merges them with Scriptures in a way that entertains while it inspires. Once it reached momentum the story kept a great pace and held my attention well. I love the character development and it made me eager to follow the plights and adventures of these character so that I could know them better. I highly recommend reading not only this book, the series as well. By the way, this is a great "tween"/young adult book too...

Few disclaimers first: I usually do NOT buy Religious Fiction books. The few that I have read in the past are too heavy on the scripture/religious part that made it impossible for me to read them. I found this book for Free on ereaderiq.com and decided to give Religious Fiction another chance. Figured---hey, it's free and it has more than just angels and demons so why not? This is not an "inspirational" religious book, and although not listed as such book I figured I would mention it since another reviewer was disappointed in this.

My usual books tend to be non-religious more on the horror/supernatural side, so it was difficult for me to get into the book. I didn't take off stars for this (usually I do) because I know the fault lies with me and not the writer. I read several 150+page books while deciding to finish this one or not (bounced from this to other book, would actually finish others before returning to it.)

The story centers around Brody, a 17 year old who just arrived in London and has a less than pleasant welcoming to the city. Actually, all hell breaks loose for a boy who is extremely sheltered in my opinion. I think part of the reason I had a hard time getting into the story was how the father acted and spoke to Brody when they first arrived in London. If you get the sample you will read what I am talking about---their initial walk through London did not have me picturing a 17 year old boy but instead a kid under 10.

It took me 60% of the book to really get into it---and looking back I see that everything that was 'boring' or 'mundane' to me needed to be there in order to truly appreciate the rest of the book. Once I got over the 60% mark I had to finish the book and am looking forward to book 2 and 3 (already out). I will be checking them out through my Prime account, as I believe $3.99 for a smaller file size book than book 1 is a bit expensive.

I am glad I took a chance and would definitely recommend this book for $1.99 or less.

This novel is a eclectic mix of ideas from a wide range of existing stories and genres.

Some people will love that - others will hate it...

Even though the plot is rushed in places,it's a decent story - so give it a go. It's free so if you don't like it, what have you lost?

4.0 out of 5 stars Confusing Christian angle - but interesting

This book takes the story of the Nephilim to a whole new level, incorporating the fae, the weres, the vampires etc into the bloodlines of the Fallen Angels. If you like that genre, then I am sure you will like this story. It is full of creatures, spells and magik, opening portals, side-by-side worlds and mystery, not to mention interesting characters from all different species.
The Christian aspect - Brody West being a Christian, son of a Pastor - is more a minor theme, than a major one for those who dislike the mix, but it has scriptural connotations none-the-less.
For the Christian, there was very little intervention by God that I could see. What seemed to be, wasn't. And Brody ended up choosing a path that his being Christian should have warned him against. Fortunately he was saved in the nick of time, but not as you expect. It is more from plots within plots in the Fallen world.
I would have expected it to be more Jesus centred, more about the central Christian figure, Brody and his faith. But it is less about Jesus and more about the demonic realm. Or the pseudo demonic realm. It is more powerful and when it does lose, it is due to infighting rather than direct influence from God. I cannot explain more or I will give the plot away, and unless you read right thru to the end, you will not see what I am saying is true.
For the strong Bible based Christian who rarely, if ever, reads these genres, read the 1 & 2 star ratings (on Amazon.com). You may not find what you are looking for in this series. I do not think it is aimed at you as a reader.
I liked it because I do like this genre, write about the genre and love the added Christian influence. The idea of explaining away the impossible in biblical terms. It is not pure Christian fiction at all (too much 'magik' for that to be the case, but the tenants of the faith are there if you know what you are looking for. I don't think he got that part wrong, as in salvation etc. There just isn't enough of it for me. I may just read the next book to see if God gets more of a say.
The book's price was $0. As a would be writer, having laboured for 4-5 years over my own book, I know how much time and research could have gone into writing FALLEN. I owe it to Mr Somers to buy at least one book and to see where he is headed with his series. I will review again then. Cheers all.
