Three of a Kind: Tales of Luck, Chance & Misfortune Kindle Edition

3.7 3.7 out of 5 stars 245 ratings

This is a collection of three short stories by three talented authors.

~The Coin Collector~
In their small Iowa town, children start to go missing on their tenth birthday. The hot Irish girl across the street claims her creepy father, Mr. O'Darby, is a leprechaun who collects more than just gold coins, and 17-year-old Trent begins to fear for the safety of his brother, Ben, whose tenth birthday grows near.

~Lucky Strike~
Atlantic City, New Jersey – For years, the city has brought to mind bright lights, big shows, and of course, games of chance and luck. For Chance Lamont, the city has begun to lose its appeal. Luck doesn't strike everyone, she'd been told, and they were right. Her life had been steadily going downhill since her teens. Will a chance encounter with someone from her past, as well as a brush with a fabled lucky creature change her fate? Or will her only luck continue to be bad luck?

~Leprechaun~
Be careful what you wish for, it's the classic warning. For Chicago native Noah Graham, he didn't care about warnings. He had everything he ever wanted in life and he wasn't even 30 yet. Yet there was one thing he still wanted, but didn't have – a divorce. But how to divorce her without giving up half? A strange man he meets in a bar offers him a way out…for a price.

Recommended for ages 16 and up.

Yes, I had to use my imagination but not tax it too much. I really enjoyed this tastefully well written tale. A little fun turning back my thinking by about 60 years and placing myself in the shoes of Trent & Ben. And as a good Irish "little People" myself, I knew and understood the thinking.

So, i was trying to clear out my kindle because i noticed i have over 1700 books on there and it is running a little slow...lol

so i have no idea if this was a freebie or if i bought it. This would have been a great book. it consists of 3 different novellas. so after i read the best short story ever they put a exert for another book by the author... i was like..

are you serious photo: You serious?

you couldn't wait till the end of the book like a normal author??!!! so, needless to say after each short story they put an excerpt for another book. this really pissed me off to the point i almost didn't finish the book. the stories were great only if you don't mind pushing your finger against your kindle to skip to the next story....

these stories were great, the first story was about a 17 year old boy who helps take care of his 9 year old brother while his mother works 3rd shift at the sheriffs department. his little brother thinks their neighbor is a leprechaun. so he looks out the window with binoculars to try to catch him. he sees this man with a pot and then a yellow glow and he is gone.
this older brother takes it upon himself to say hello when he sees the girl of his dreams.. she is home schooled and never been outside or even seen a tv. he knows something is weird because she is afraid of her dad. he comes over every day until his mother says someone is kidnapping kids on their 10th birthday...
worried about his brother he goes on a mission to make sure he is safe.. little did he know that he would have to come across a mad leprechaun and figure out who would see out these children...

the next story is just as good. it is about a girl who had a horrible high school year. she was in a horrible accident where they never found or arrested the people who were responsible. she moved far away and turned into an alcoholic and a drug addict. she was living with any guy who could give her a bed. this all would change when she met a guy who owns a casino. she thought her luck finally changed..
she was wrong.. this guy turned out to be abusive. she tried to leave once and found out his goon squad came looking for her, beat her and brought her back to the casino. she was just going day by day until her boyfriend introduced a very wealthy man. she was suppose to make him happy. she knew who he was. she hoped he didn't notice her..
he was the one who took her to prom right before everything happend. she needed to make sure he didn't know. after changing her name and eye color she was in the clear for a couple of years. until one day when they were on his boat he called her by her old name..
he noticed the abuse because of the marks. he wanted to help her before it was to late...she told him it wasn't safe..
until a dolphin will change everything ...

lastly this story wasn't my favorite but it was still cute. a man worked hard from the time he was little until he graduated college. he was into the stock market and had a lot of money. he married his high school sweetheart, but they couldn't get pregnant. they tried and tried. now, finally at the age of 25 he wanted out. the only problem was he didn't want to give his wife half of the money he made.
one night while he was out with his co workers a little man offered to help him with his problems...all he had to do was match the money he was going to give his wife..
now this man thought he had everything he ever wanted... the wife went into a deep depression until the sad little man came to the lady and offered her a way to make things better...
little did both of these people know you need to be careful for what you wish for...

I got this book because it was free at the time and because I really like Kristen Middleton as an author. I was pleasantly surprised by this "freebie". It had three unique and different tales that I have not really come into contact with, so I enjoyed it. If you're looking for a quick read that isn't mind boggling and that doesn't really require you to think, this is a great choice.

I truly loved this book! Each story had me pulled me in immediately and I wish they were all longer. I feel they were all so unique and well written! I want more! : )

I like the story, but it's a little inappropriate when you intersperse it with something else (I was confused at first)

Each story is a fun and quick read. It's a bit odd how there are excerpts in-between each story though. I thought I was moving onto the next story because they started from the beginning and then just stopped, telling me to purchase that story to continue reading. Once I figured out that there were 1 to 3 in-between each story, I just skipped through them.

I really enjoyed reading the short stories of this book. The mystery of the stories kept my interest couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next.

I kept reading just thinking that it would get better or that the story would continue on into something more. Not one of my favorite reads.
