This 6th century masterpiece shines a light on how our modern society has been shaped by the Romans (in this case, East Romans). Very good read for lovers of history, law historians or anyone looking to discover a forgotten world. The lawyer Tribonianus' gift to the world.

Valuable historical information for the legal historian. Provides perspective on modern civil and common law systems. A must read for the jurisprudential scholar. An easy to read translation.

Invaluable reading for people with interest in law and history.

I have not read this completely yet. But I was struck by the opinion of the jurists that slavery - although commonplace in the Mediterranean world - was considered an "unnatural state" and that a jurist was encouraged to always look for a reason to rule in favor of freedom or emancipation!
