The Odds and Other Stories are a collection of love stories by Ethel M. Dell. The Odds is a love story with surprises. All of the stories are interesting and have many twists and turns. I found this collection interesting and hard to put down until finished. I would highly recommend this story collection.

My grandmother stared me reading this author. These are sweet stories of a time none of us still living can truly encompass. These stories are a glimpse into the lives of an idealized time long past. If you remember that these books were truly written for a different world, you will enjoy them greatly. Please try them for yourself. I do not believe that you will regret it.

A great edition by Edith M. Dell, some of her best romantic stories in one book, I've always loved it. Dell's work is a perfect example of a love story - wildly romantic without ever getting pornographic. Fast paced, breathless, REAL men, seeking REAL woman, women being swept off their feet, yet who are in control - well, not always ;) - it's hard to believe she wrote this so long ago, but perhaps those were the days when passion, love, excitement were REAL!
Some plots involve, abduction, and attempted forced seduction but these will end with redemption and happiness. These novels stand up so well to the test of time, which makes one want to get lost in the world of Dell!
The writing is excellent, the characters believable in their actions, (except that why can't we all find men as believable as these?) and the story line and plot just as or more exciting eighty years after it was written. It's a romance but far better written and imagined than what we can find in the current crop of romance novels.
Really, really romantic and passionate! You can't go wrong read it - you'll fall in love again and again!

Dell paints her world so vividly that to read one this novel is to feel as though you are entering one exotic local after another. I could almost smell the locals as she described it and hear the sounds of which she wrote. The true strength of her writing is in these lush and sensuous passages and I found this aspect of her work so strong that I enjoyed the book and I'm reading more and more of her work. Oh to have lived this life for myself, the romance, the travel, the sex, the lifestyle....well, at least there is this book! Its intelligent, hot, historical AND romantic. (And nothing silly what so ever!) Very good balance of history to fiction. Good story development. Recommend. I love the way Dell brings to life the time period. Her attention to detail is fascinating without sounding like the History Channel. You will enjoy this if you like romance stories, historical romances, or just play romantic literature. Dell was one of the hottest authors before her tragic death.
